Republican Base Voters Disapprove of ObamaCare’s Medicaid Expansion and Candidates Who Embrace It

From the press release:

The four-question surveys revolve exclusively around ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion.  Although the questions do not name specific candidates, the responses will undoubtedly concern pro-Medicaid expansion Republican governors with an eye on the greatest prize in American politics.

“Flip-flopping to embrace ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion has real consequences.  Republican governors like Mike Pence, John Kasich and Terry Branstad may have doomed their presidential campaigns before they even begin,” said FGA CEO Tarren Bragdon.  “GOP voters in critical early-primary states have low opinions of ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion and are very clear in their opposition to a governor who supports it.”

In all three states, ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion was opposed by more than 80 percent of respondents.  More than 70 percent in each state said their opinion of a Republican governor would decline if they knew that governor implemented ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion in his or her own state.  Huge numbers of respondents also indicated their opinion of a Republican governor would decline if they knew he or she lobbied for ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion is other states, as Governor Mike Pence has repeatedly done since announcing his own ObamaCare expansion for his state of Indiana.  Most upsetting for Mike Pence and other pro-ObamaCare presidential wannabe; between 62 percent and 70 percent of respondents are unlikely to support a Republican in the 2016 primaries who expanded Medicaid in his or her state.
